Check-In 4pm
If you arrive early, check-in with the hotel front desk and we will let you know if your room might be ready early. We can also hold on to your luggage in our secure bell closet while you enjoy one of our restaurants or a walk around downtown Durango while you wait for your 4pm check-in time.
Check-Out 11am
Please notify us if you are running past 11am to check-out of your room. We may be able to extend your checkout time by one hour without additional fees.
Cancellation and Reservation Changes
48 hours prior to arrival we charge the card on file for the first night’s stay. Guests have until 48 hours prior to arrival to adjust or cancel the reservation without penalty.
Important note: If you DID NOT BOOK WITH US DIRECTLY Cancellations/adjustments of reservations made on third party sites (like Expedia, Kayak, Booking.com, TripAdvisor, etc.) are done with that booking engine and are subject to their policies. We are unable to alter these third party reservations in any way. That’s why it’s always best to book with us direct for the most flexibility!
Smoke-Free Property
The Historic Strater and its bars and restaurants are all Smoke-Free (including tobacco and marijuana).
What is Your Pet Policy?
We have five (5) hotel rooms assigned for pet stays. If those rooms have been assigned to guests with pets and you arrive with a pet and did not reserve a pet friendly room, we will not be able to accommodate you. Service animals are permitted. No animal should be left unattended in the hotel room. If they must be left in the room, they must be in a kennel for the safety of the pet and our staff. Pet charges: $75 per pet per night. Hotel Amenities
Is there an amenity fee? Yes. There is an $18 historic preservation fee plus tax.
Do you have Wi-Fi? Yes – complimentary and password protected
Is there a business center? We do not have a business center. However, if you need something done for business, please let us know and we will help you get it done!
Is there Coffee Service? Yes, daily in the lobby from 5:30am – 11am. Premium rooms come with coffee makers.
Ice Machines are located on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors.
Small refrigerators and microwaves for your room are available upon request. While our Guest Rooms do not have refrigerators/microwaves, we have a supply of “dorm-sized” appliances for your use.
Parking For Hotel Guests
When you check-in, we will provide you with a parking pass and information on our Strater lots for guests only. You may park out front while you check-in and unload your luggage. Download Our Strater Parking Map!
Do you have room service?
There is no room service. Guests are welcome to order take-out from our restaurants to take to their room. This includes alcohol service.
Hot Tub Information
Our Jacuzzi Room is available for hotel guests only and is complimentary. Reservations should be made with a front desk agent. The room is available 11am – 9pm, in 30 minute increments.
Durango Hot Springs Discount
We are pleased to offer our guests a 10% discount at Durango Hot Springs, located in the beautiful Animas Valley. PLEASE DO NOT USE STRATER HOTEL towels for your trip to the Hot Springs. They have towels available there, and we want to be sure your towels remain here for your use in your guest room!
Can I get a tour of The Strater?
When available, our front desk agents are always interested in showing guests around our living museum. We do offer a Self-Guided Tour with audio scanned from a QR Code, please ask the front desk for a rackcard with detailed information and a map of exhibits showcased. In the summer, we offer more thorough tours and open these to guests and the public.
Accessibility
Having been built in 1887 with stairs and a very small elevator, we are not officially ADA compliant. We can assist guests with ramps and shower benches. Please inquire when you make your reservation so that we may know your requirements.
Health & Safety
It is in everyone’s best interest for our team to clean The Strater Hotel and its restaurants and bars thoroughly, on a daily basis, for the safety of our guests and staff. Public spaces and common areas are cleaned regularly with disinfectant. There is hand sanitizer available in public spaces as well.

Is there an airport shuttle?
The Strater does not offer transportation to/from the airport. There are taxi and Uber services available. Please check Google and plan ahead.
