Happy Birthday Strater!

The Strater Hotel is turning 132! When the hotel was built in 1887, she was the largest building in Durango for years to come. Today, the Strater Hotel is still a staple in the heart of Southwest Colorado.

About 1.7 million people have stayed in these walls over the years, and even more, have just walked through the lobby or eaten in the restaurants. There are antiques throughout the building to remind her of youth, and for all of her guests to feel nostalgic.

A Life of Great Things

The Strater Hotel has been home to several different businesses since her birth. The Diamond Belle was originally a pharmacy.  The Office Spiritorium has been a barbershop, a lobby for the Columbian House, and an oils and paints store. And, the Mahogany Grille came to be after several other restaurants.

Being the grand, old age she is, it should be no surprise to you that the Strater has undergone many renovations. The maintenance teams and renovators have been key players in keeping her looking great and in proficient operation.

The iconic brick-red building has been standing on the corner of Main Avenue and 7^th Street since the turn of the 20^th century, and for that, we want you to wish it a very happy birthday.
