5 Days – 4 Nights
There’s no time like vacation time. Spend it well!
Five Days in Durango. Sounds like a book. Maybe it will be (and be sure to write in our guestroom journal you’ll find in your room. We love your stories, and you might like reading the stories of others too – sometimes people have some good advice and ideas!). Okay…
DAY ONE: Start off with breakfast at The Mahogany Grille and then go for a walk through downtown Durango. Pop into local shops that offer one of a kind items, perfect for unique gifts to bring back home. Enjoy your evening at the Strater. Begin with cocktails and apps in the Office Spiritorium, enjoy hearty entrees from the Mahogany Grille and end the evening with live entertainment in the Diamond Belle Saloon.
DAY TWO: Book a guided trip or go yourself to Mesa Verde National Park. You really have to see this place to believe it! (Be sure not to ask your guide why “they built this place so far off the highway?” — that’s a tourist question we get…honestly). It’s a pretty full day at Mesa Verde, and on your way back you might want to stop in Mancos for a drink and to take in this quaint town. Dinner at The Mahogany perhaps and then sleepy time in your Strater hotel room.
DAY THREE: All aboard!! It’s your day to take the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train. Grab breakfast at The Mahogany or something to go and then board this amazing transport back in time. You’ll be amazed with the scenery and its so fun to talk to everyone who’s on board about their individual stories and share trip ideas. Silverton is a very cool place….make sure you walk Blair Street (you’ll feel like a true Old Westerner). Once back in town (later in afternoon), clean up and hit The Diamond Belle Saloon (if you’re here on a Mon/Wed or Friday, you’ll enjoy an old west gunfight shootout re-enactment right outside starting at 5:30pm).
DAY FOUR:Choose your ride day! Ride a horse, ride a golf cart, ride a bike….pick one or all and enjoy our trails, our links and the amazing outdoors of the southwest. Rapp Corral for horseback rides. Dalton Ranch, Hillcrest or Glacier Club for golf. And ask the front desk for mountain bike rental ideas…we have lots. This is a mountain bike haven! You may even see some pros out on the trails.
DAY FIVE: Hot time in the old hot springs on day five. It’s time to chill… well… not really… but you will certainly be relaxed. Go to Durango Hot Springs in Durango or Pagosa Hot Springs just 60 miles east of us in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Soak, swim, get some sun (wear sunscreen – we are really close to the sun here at altitude ;-)….and reflect on your fantastic trip to Durango and the mighty southwest. Oh…and maybe have that talk where you decide to stay longer…or come back for skiing or something. Have fun. Be safe. And we’ll see you at The Strater.
