A Rockin’ Snowdown
January 29th - February 2nd
You may feel like Durango’s winter will never end. Each day is colder than the next, and most of us are finding ourselves stuck inside. Luckily Durango has a massive party to get us out of our winter funk, and that’s Snowdown. Snowdown has been around since 1979 and was thought of by John Murrah to get the town in better spirits in the harsh winters we have in Durango. The majority of events are held downtown so people can participate in as many activities as they can. The Strater hotel loves Snowdown and participates in many of the festivities.
The Strater Hotel participation in the Snowdown 2020 events:
- The Follies- A theatre production that is sold out for every showing and loved by the locals.
- Outlaw Josie Pete Golf Tournament– One of the downtown holes will be located at the Strater Hotel inside The Diamond Belle Saloon. This event is a Snowdown favorite, and there are plenty of participants and viewers every year.
- The Annual Snowdown Light Parade– The festive parade floats drive down Main Avenue giving the Strater Hotel a perfect viewpoint of the event.
The Exclusive Follies: A Must See Snowdown Event
The Follies have been hosted at the Henry Strater Theatre for over 30 years, and it’s one of the Strater Hotels’ favorite traditions. The Follies live performances can only be found at the Durango Arts Center and the Henry Strater Theatre. The live event for the Follies always sells out, so the Animas City Theatre shows a recording of the performance on their big screen to allow more people to be able to watch the local favorite performance. The Follies is a live show performed by a local cast. The show plays on local humor and really hits home for the locals who watch it. The cast is made up of wacky characters who dress in some of the best Snowdown costumes. To make the event a little more fun and exclusive to watch, they require people to go on a ticket hunt to receive tickets at 6 am Saturday, January 18, 2020. It might be too late this year to get your tickets but prepare yourself for next year’s show. The Follies website gives you the scoop on everything Follies: http://snowdownfollies.org/index.html.
A Snowdown Favorite: Outlaw Josie Pete Golf Tournament
Snowdown has named the Outlaw Josie Pete Golf Tournament a favorite event. People flock to the event to play a series of mini golf style holes located at various businesses downtown. Golf, costumes, and goofy spectators make this a fun event for all. Make sure to enter to participate in one of the best bar crawl events of the year in Durango. Each hole is located at a restaurant or bar so you can grab food and drinks as you putt your way through downtown. Holes will be located at some of Durango’s favorite establishments like El Moro, Derailed Pour House, The Balcony, Olde Tymers, and many more. This year The Strater hotel will have a hole located in the Diamond Belle Saloon, so make sure to stop by for a drink and some fun golf action.
