Once in a while an opportunity comes along to experience something that’s too good to pass up. The Strater Culinary Safari is just that; a memorable and delicious adventure into worldwide adventure dining. Be inspired, explore, and learn about foods typically not found in the Four Corners Region, all while enjoying the camaraderie of friends, old and new. You're invited to be a part of the adventure as Chef Safari hosts Culinary Safari each month with a unique dining experience from a different region in the world or culinary style. Professional guest chefs will periodically be a part of the journey, as well as local talented cooks.

Strater Culinary Safari seating is limited to 60, on a first-come, first-serve basis for $55 (all-inclusive) per person. Live entertainment is planned and a cash bar will feature a specialty cocktail or wine, perfect for pairing with the meal. Invite your friends and family to join you on a global adventure, all without ever leaving the comfort of our beautiful Durango, Colorado.

African Vacation Results in Fortuitous Meeting

When Strater Hotel owners, Laurie and Rod Barker, were invited to join a small group traveling to Africa on a photographic safari, they had no idea it would end up being the start of a new chapter for the historic Strater Hotel. The consummate hotelier, Mr. Barker is always interested in dining and lodging, and made it a point to meet each of the friendly and well-trained staff at the Breezes Resort in Zanzibar—their home base for several days. On the last day, after meeting everyone except the executive chef, out from the kitchen came Chef Arnold Safari. His beaming smile and warm personality were impossible to ignore, though his talent as a chef was what really impressed the Barkers. Now, just several years later, Durango and the Strater Hotel are Chef Safari’s home base.
