7 Days – 6 Nights
There’s no time like vacation time. Spend it well!
One week in Durango will fly by…most people who spend a week here, end up at a local realtors office searching for their second home or retirement place! And we welcome you. We love it here and we know you will to. We’ve asked a few locals what they have their long-staying guests do when they arrive and here’s some ideas for you to consider.
DAY ONE: If you’ve flown in – you should just drop your luggage with us and walk around downtown Durango. If you’re driving in – be sure to take your time and stop at all the amazing views along the way into Durango. Then in the evening arrive at The Strater Hotel, check in, have us bring your luggage to your room and you head immediately to The Diamond Belle Saloon or The Office Spiritorium for a creative cocktail, glass of wine or local beer. Unwind, relax and review our dinner menu at The Mahogany Grille and have a fantastic farm to table feast. SLEEP well because the morning you’ll be heading out!
DAY TWO: Wake up and take the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train to and from Durango to amazing Silverton, Colorado (it’s elevation is 9,312 so drink lots of water). You’ll be back in the later afternoon, in time to unwind in your Strater guestroom. Enjoy live music in our bars or others in Durango that evening – talk to the locals. We love to talk.
DAY THREE: Take a raft and jeep adventure (you can book through The Strater’s website). You’ll enjoy the Animas River and the La Plata Mountains, see old mining operations and more.
DAY FOUR: Take a hike! That’s right. We have SOOO many trails that lead to so many places you won’t believe. Too many to mention here, but you can pick from a longer hike to a leisurely walk along the famous Animas River Trail.
DAY FIVE: Go fish! Yup – these are Gold Medal Fly Fishing Rivers here and even if you don’t know what you are doing, the people at the Local Fly Fishing shops are amazing teachers.
DAY SIX: Jump on a bike and play some golf. Mountain bikes can be rented for the whole family and the trails are literally rideable from town. Single track is the “thing” here and we have a bunch of famous people who live here and train here. Golfing here is pretty wonderful too. From Dalton Ranch in the Animas Valley and The Glacier Club’s new semi-private 18 to Hillcrest right here in town up by Fort Lewis College. Be sure to book a tee time. It’s busy in the summer.
DAY SEVEN: You’ll be checking out today, but you can store your luggage with us…or maybe you won’t check out and decide to stay with us a bit longer. But today…maybe take a horseback ride with Rapp Corral before you head home.
